Leeds United 3-4 Derby County: Rams play-off victory up there with Liverpool and Tottenham comebacks, says Simon Grayson
Simon Grayson believes Derbys stunning play-off semi-final victory over Leeds at Elland Road is up there with Liverpool and Tottenhams amazing comebacks in the Champions League.Frank Lampards men went into Wednesdays clash as big underdogs. They trailed 1-0 after losing the first leg at home and needed to beat the Whites who they had lost twice to in the league this season on their home turf to progress to Wembley.Lampard has taken Derby County to the play-off final in his first season in managementGetty3

It appeared to get even worse for the Rams when Stuart Dallas gave the hosts a first-half lead, but Lampard rolled the dice early by bringing Jack Marriott off the bench and he made an instant impact.Marriott scored with his first touch to make it 1-1 on the stroke of half-time, and they came quickly out of the traps to score two more through on-loan duo Mason Mount and Harry Wilson.Dallas scored again for Leeds to make it 3-3 on aggregate, but Marriott won it late on for Derby with a composed finish. It was a game that had everything, including a sending off for each team, and was the latest in a series of dramatic comebacks from English clubs. And former Leeds manager Grayson believes the Rams result is akin to Liverpools stunning 4-0 win over Barcelona and Tottenhams miracle against Ajax in the Champions League semi-finals.Jack Marriott changed the game for Derby at Elland RoadGetty3

It was an amazing night of football, said Grayson, part of talkSPORTs commentary team at Elland Road. The stadium was rocking last night, its a really hostile place to play.Obviously it didnt go the right way for the Leeds United faithful, but for Derby County theres an opportunity for them now at Wembley in the play-off final. The odds were stacked against them so much, right from the first leg and throughout the majority of the game last night.Where does it rank? There are comparisons with Tottenham and Liverpool, and its up there.Frank Lampard celebrates Derby’s sensational play-off victory against LeedsGetty3
