Watford 3-2 Wolves AET: Troy Deeney hails Hornets’ desire with incredible FA Cup comeback victory
Watford captain Troy Deeney was full of praise for his team-mates’ desire after they reached the FA Cup final in sensational style. The Hornets beat Wolves 3-2 after extra-time despite going 2-0 down with over an hour played thanks to goals from Matt Doherty and Raul Jiminez.Wolves had one foot in the final when Jiminez (masked) put them 2-0 up3

However, substitute Gerard Deulofeu’s excellent chip and Deeney’s stoppage-time penalty took the game to extra-time.And the stunning comeback was complete when Deulofeu grabbed his second of the game – sliding the ball beyond John Ruddy’s reach.Deeney needed nerves of steel when taking his penalty but when interviewed by talkSPORT’s Ian Abrahams after the game the striker linked back to an interview where he accused Arsenal of lacking ‘cojones’ following a Premier League match at Vicarage Road in October 2017.Deeney rifled his penalty home to level the tie up3

So when asked about the spot-kick, Deeney immediately piped up: “Did someone say cojones, right?Abrahams then asked Deeney if this performance makes him a Watford legend in reference to an interview the pair had in the build-up to the semi-final.Deeney replied alongside team-mate Adrian Mariappa: “I said you cant be a legend while youre playing and its not up to me to say Im a legend. Im just grafting, the same as Adrian does every day. Were very proud of our personal achievements at this club goals, games and so on. This teams growing and I want to keep pushing the ceiling on this and also get the respect that these boys deserve. Were not the best team but look at that desire 2-0 down and many teams would have folded.”Watford will face Manchester City in the final on May 18 after their 1-0 victory over Brighton on Saturday. It’s set to be a tough test for Javi Gracia’s men and Deeney didn’t want to talk too much about Watford’s chances of beating the Citizens.Watford will meet City in the final3

Deeney added: “Were not going to be all nave and get caught up in it and say yeah of course we can [beat Manchester City] but were going to have belief. They have a great team, a great outfit, one of the best in Europe and well have to work for it.Were going to enjoy this though. Im sick of talking about everyone else. This is our thing. However, Mariappa gave a far more optimistic response to his team’s chances in the final.Mariappa said: Yeah, why not? Were going to come and have a go and thats all we can do. We believed in ourselves from day one of this season and youve seen the character weve shown.

Cardiff City were victor back in December.
