As Rooney said goodbye, England fans said hello to a host of impressive debutants. So, how did everyone perform?

Jordan Pickford – 7

The World Cup hero probably had more to do than he expected and made a smart save from Christian Pulisic before being replaced at half-time.

Trent Alexander-Arnold – 8

Played more as a right winger and demonstrated superb technique to grab his first England goal.Alexander-Arnold was mightily impressive5

Michael Keane – 6

England were hardly threatened at the back but the plucky Pulisic did cause a few nervous moments for the Everton defender.

Lewis Dunk – 6

It was his misplaced pass and then a poorly judged tackle which led to Pulisic’s chance, however it was an assured debut overall.

Ben Chilwell – 7

Looks more impressive with every week that goes by and tonight furthered his case as England’s new first-choice left-back.

Harry Winks – 7

He’ll be disappointed with his quality in the final third, but the Americans couldn’t get near him.It was a vibrant display from Winks5

Fabian Delph – 7

Provided an excellent cross for Wilson’s goal as he moved from central-midfield to left-back.

Dele Alli – 8

Completely bossed the game in the first half without breaking a sweat.

Jesse Lingard – 8

What a strike it was to open the scoring. Shades of that wonderful goal against Panama in Russia.

Callum Wilson – 8

He took his time, but he finally got his goal. Credit to him for keeping his head up despite a host of missed chances.Jadon Sancho gives England fans plenty to be excited about5

Jadon Sancho – 9

Fearless, arrogant, talented. England fans have every right to be excited about the young Borussia Dortmund starlet.

Sub: Alex MacCarthy – 6

He would’ve liked an opportunity to prove himself on his debut but he wasn’t tested.

Sub: Wayne Rooney – 8

He’s still got it. A couple of sensational passes and clever touches ensured a farewell to remember.Wayne Rooney had a night to remember5

Sub: Jordan Henderson – 6

Kept the ball moving as the USA began to fade.

Sub: Eric Dier – 7

Injected some much-needed energy and crashed into tackles as England began to take their foot off the gas.

Sub: Ruben Loftus-Cheek – 5

Saw plenty of the ball but his footwork was often clumsy.

Sub: Marcus Rashford – 5

Sometimes when you’re desperate to impress, you end up forgetting to do the simple things.
