What is Sarri-ball?’ Gordon Strachan baffled by Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri’s playing style
Gordon Strachan took aim at Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarris signature playing style, telling talkSPORT he still has no idea what Sarri-ball is after watching the Blues this season. In fact, the former Scotland boss has accused Chelsea players of just giving the ball to star man Eden Hazard and standing back to wait for him to do something brilliant.Sarri has been hailed as something of a tactical genius throughout his storied career in Italy, with his teams, most recently Serie A title challengers Napoli, becoming synonymous with attractive attacking football, quick, short passes and rapid counter attacks.Maurizio Sarri was named the Serie A Manager of the Year in 20172

He enjoyed initial success with this system at Stamford Bridge, opening the season with 18 unbeaten games, but Chelseas form has since fallen away to put their Italian boss under pressure. The Blues performances in recent games have been quite startling. They conceded ten goals in their two last away games in the league against Bournemouth and Manchester City, and Sarri has come under fire for being too stubborn to realise his game plan is no longer working. And former Scotland boss Strachan is clearly no fan.Speaking on Mondays Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast, he said: Can somebody explain to me what Sarri-ball is?Ive still not got it yet. Has it just been invented? Is it fake news?Chelsea have been accused of passing the ball to Hazard and ‘waiting for him to do something brilliant’2
Chelsea have been accused of passing the ball to Hazard and ‘waiting for him to do something brilliant’
It just looks like a 4-3-3 with one sitting midfield player, and the rest just pass the ball to Hazard.Wherever he is, it has to go through Jorginho and then somehow you have to get it to Hazard and then you have to stand back and wait for Hazard to do something brilliant, which he has done on many of occasions. But if thats not working, then it doesnt seem to work at all! This Sarri-ball thing, unless somebody can explain to me what it is, Im not sure about it. Im not sure what it is.And it seems Chelsea fans are not impressed either, with a number of them heard singing about it in a derogatory way during the club’s 2-0 loss to Man United in the FA Cup.
